Our most recent Flash Sale featured a pretty sweet deal on Luigi Pira’s wines, with some Dolcetto, Nebbiolo and Barbera in one box and a mix of their single vineyard Barolo in another. I’ve had the 2017 Barolo for a while now and some are way too heavy and tired. It was a very hot vintage and some producers are adapting, especially in the way they manage their vineyard, less efficiently.
Gianpaolo Pira is not one of them, his 2017 are an amazing interpretation of challenging vintage resulting in powerful, structured but incredibly refined Barolo wines. The legendary Vignarionda is a masterpiece. Tiziana Pira says it may not be as age worthy as others, we have already set up a tasting in 2041 to see who’s right.
